Grid Style Playsystems

Daily
- A soft damp cloth can be used on all parts of the structure including plastic and vinyl areas
- Use suggested cleaning agents on any areas that require extra attention
- It is important to regularly clean dust build-up from obstructed areas
- Do NOT use Fantastik® or a Heavy Duty Degreaser on windows
Weekly
- The playsystem should be cleaned on the inside and outside with a damp cloth
- Use a vacuum to clean any debris from crevices such as tube to tube connections
- Windows should be cleaned with Windex®
- A soft cloth should be used to polish windows
- If a slide appears “sticky”, wash over the area with a Heavy Duty Degreaser to restore the surface
- The windows and domes should be cleaned with Windex® or Visor Refinish and a soft cloth
- The Plexi-Glass Fence should be cleaned with Windex® or Visor Refinish and a soft cloth
- Tube slides should be cleaned with a damp cloth only. Cleaning products such as Armor All® are NOT recommended for use on or in slides
Monthly
- To keep luster in the plastic of the playsystem and the outside of all tubes, it is recommended that the unit be wiped with Armor All®. Dispense the solution from a spray bottle while using a soft cloth to polish
- Check post padding and vinyl post covers for any tears and/or loose fittings
- Check all exposed post tie straps to make sure there are no sharp edges and that the straps are secure
- Clean these components with Fantastik® or a disinfectant solution and a damp cloth
Framework & Fasteners
- The steel framework of the structure is built using a tube and clamp system. Bolts and screws are tightened initially and should not work loose. However because of the busy usage of these areas, it is recommended that the bolts and screws are checked for tightness MONTHLY
- Webstraps are used to hold suspended items. These should be checked WEEKLY for tightness. Web crawls should also be checked WEEKLY. If any are showing signs of wear, we suggest they be replaced
Vinyl Covered Foam Shapes and Mats
- Care should be taken when cleaning to remove all debris left behind by children in the crevices between play items. Strong detergents should not be used on the stitched items, as they affect the tear strength of the threads used in manufacture. Vinyl covered floor pads and wall pads are cleaned in the same way as other vinyl items. Gaps between pads should be checked daily for sharp objects. Any tears in the pads should be repaired
- It is normal that with use some of the surface coating of the vinyl will wear, particularly on corners. This is the nature of the material. While as many safeguards are applied as possible during manufacture and improvements are made constantly, it is not possible to prevent completely this gradual delimination because of the flexibility of the vinyl combined with the compression of the underlying foam
Safety Surfacing
- Safety surfacing porosity and texture result in a surface with properties that are very similar to regular carpet. Therefore, maintenance of a carpet and of safety surfacing are virtually identical
- Sweeping — Sweeping the surface with a stiff bristle broom will be the most common method of keeping the surface clean. However, because of the porosity and granular texture of the surface, it is difficult to remove contaminants by sweeping alone
- Vacuum — A vacuum will provide similar results as when used on carpet
- Damp Mop — You can clean with a damp mop NOT wet mop
- Water Hose — Use a water hose with a pressure spray tip to remove contaminants from porous top surface. However, if performed the safety surfacing should be removed, cleaned and allowed to completely dry before reinstalling.
- Steam Clean — A steam vacuum with or without cleaning agents is ideal for advanced cleaning and maintenance. Follow instructions of your steam cleaner.
- Professional “Dry” Cleaning — Professional carpet and upholstery maintenance companies provide a system called “Dry Cleaning/Scrubbing”. A “hard charger” cleaner is first applied to the surface and allowed to settle in. A cotton pad, with 1/4" (.6 cm) strands of nylon is that attached to a rotation scrubber. This system provides for a very thorough and deep clean. Please contact your local, professional, commercial carpet cleaner for details
- * Safety Surfacing types may vary. Contact our office for suggestions on best cleaning practice depending on your type of flooring

Damage to Play Structure - Incorrectly fitted replacement parts could cause injury or an accident. If an part of the unit becomes damaged, notify Management and/or your Playground Installer. Use only approved SPI replacement parts for your playsystem. Contact SPI for replacement parts and maintenance.
